The dreams of an organic clothing brand

The dreams of an organic cotton clothing company to be the most trusted and desirable brand on the planet.

7 years ago we started our little organic cotton clothing company and called it Cut4Cloth. Back then our lives were dominated by our new baby boy and cloth nappies, but we knew that quitting our jobs and following our dream was what we had to do.

I was a big leap of faith. One of those ‘if we don’t do it now will we always regret it’ moments that come along every once in a while. Well we did it and our first range of organic cotton baby clothes that would fit over a cloth nappy was launched in the summer of 2004.

We had one computer, in our spare room,  a dial-up internet connection and a dream.

Now we have twenty one computers, in a purpose built unit, 2 broadband lines…and a dream.

Our dream is for Frugi to be the most desirable and trusted organic cotton clothing brand on the planet.

Frugi clothes are always design lead. It is all very well to have the softest and strongest organic cotton in the world, but if the design is wrong then all ethics and environmentally friendliness in the world will not help. The clothes have to look great too.

We now do clothes for newborn, baby, kids and mother. Our ‘mother’ range is designed to help breastfeeding mums feed their babies discreetly, but in style. Our Baby range is sill cut that bit bigger for cloth nappies and our kids range now goes up yo 8 years old.

We now have a consumer website and a wholesale website and a great facebook page.

The dream is alive…

We’re off to Bubble London

See what I did

We’re all busy, busy busy here at Frugi HQ getting ready to go to the Bubble trade show in London this weekend! There’s lot’s to do, and no-one can wriggle their way out of it!

There’s sewing, stuffing, cutting, painting, carpentry, clothes steaming, van-hiring, Roskilly’s fudge (yum)…and lots more to do! Unfortunately, it’s not for us to eat …although we did see Stephen coming out of the staff room yesterday looking a little bit like the cat who got the cream…!

Everyone’s working on props and decorations to make our Frugi stand look amazing, to entice lots of new and existing retailers to Planet Frugi- and that’ll hopefully mean that there will be even more shops all over the planet selling scrummy Frugi goodies in the spring! If you’re really lucky, there might be some new Frugi stockists near you.

Say hello to them on stand A1 if you’re a potential Frugi retailer, and have a butchers at AW11 and SS12

Good luck everybody, and we look forward to hearing all about it next week.

The new Frugi picnic and veg patch

Look what I've dug

The Warehouse boys have got themselves a new project. Behind Frugi HQ is a little scrap of wasteland that they are busy converting into a picnic area. They’ve cleared the ground, and are busy getting it ready for some grass seed and some picnic tables. They have a dream of a little vegetable patch as well, to grow some lovely organic produce for their lunches.

It’s such a brilliant idea, and we’re all right behind them. We’ll keep you up to date with its progress, but for now here’s a picture of our Derek doing some of the graft! Go Del boy, go!!

Frugi is off to London

The Frugi LOndon Crew
Happy little Frugi bunnies
Some of the Frugi ‘Tomorrow’ departmant are off to that there London to talk to some of our customers about all things Frugi-ish. Technically this is known as a ‘focus group’..apparently. However, this being us, it’ll probably be just an excuse for a chat and biscuits!
Th ‘Van’ that was hired turned out to be a Peugeot ‘Partner’ with extra seets in the boot. Hummm, a little cramped. I think some form of people carrier was expected. Anyway, all the girls have very small bums do they’ll fit in easliy and have a very comfy journey!
Thanks Helene for the thumbs up and the sticking out tongue – you are way too cool.
Good luck little Frugi people. Don’t let the ‘big smoke’ scare you.

Lucy Jewson to pose for playboy

Following her recent success in the Saturday Telegraph magazine Lucy Jewson, 39, has been approached by the publishing giants Playboy for inclusion in their ‘Seen in Green’ feature that will be published this summer.

The feature, which will see assorted high profile environmental activists posing nude whilst hugging a tree, is due to set the world of environmental activism alight. The publishers are hoping that by celebrating Mrs. Jewsons achievements  they will lay the groundwork for future additions where she will be seen swimming naked with dolphins, turning off lights in the nude, skipping naked through fields of wind turbines and other such environmentally friendly activities yet to be established.

Mrs Jewson said, “This is a fantastic opportunity to further the ‘green’ cause and to get some free pictures of me in the nude at the same time. I’ve long held the belief that nudity and eco-activism go hand in hand and both are causes I wholeheartedly support.”

Upon asking what her husband, Kurt, thought of it all Mrs. Jewson said, “My husband, as always, is right behind me”

The actual date for publication is unknown. However sources near to Mrs. Jewson suspect 1st April.

Go wild in the Warehouse

Fold them neatly

The warehouse guys are doing a bit of spring cleaning this week, and getting prepared for our next sample sale.

Boxes are being labelled, clothes folded and plans hatched.

Not quite sure when it’s going to be yet, but we’ll keep you posted!

Meanwhile do they get the prettiest warehouse award for the lovely Frugi banners on the wall?

The adventures of Fluffy, the Frugi Chicken

What Cowboy's done this?

We don’t hear much about the Frugi Chickens anymore. They were once all we could talk about. Chickens this, eggs that and then…nothing.

Well you see…there was a bit of a Fox incident. A few were lost, a few survived. Fluffy was one of the survivors.

Lucy and I grew her from an egg. We also grew ‘Lucky’ but, alas, she was not.

However you would have thought that Fluffy would have learnt a lesson, seeing as what happened to Lucky. But she has become quite an adventurer since we moved house.

Next door to the Jewson residence there is some major Barn Conversion work going on and, well, Fluffy has taken quite an interest. You seedespite electric fences and wing clipping, Fluffy has become quite the escapeologist. This adventurous spirit has been somewhat egged on (Can you see what I did there?) by the builders who have been giving her the crusts of their sandwiches and generally being very nice to her indeed. (She now comes and visits them in their little ‘crib’ room when they have their Tea and lunch).

Recently she’s even managed to find a route up on to the scaffolding to have a chat and, apparently, the occasional poo, and the other day she came into our living room and watched a bit of telly. The Cat, Rascal by name etc., didn’t know quite what to do!

The other Chickens don’t seem to mind. I’ve spoken to them about it, but all I get is clucking. I’ve tried Google translate but it wont work for Chicken – especially Cornish Chickens as it doesn’t do accents very well.

The builders have given up trying to put her back in her home. One day I got back and they told me that they had all been ‘shooing’ her back but had not succeeded. (The image of 5 burly builders shooing a chicken around a building site should have been captured on film).

So she’s a free spirit. A friend to builders and a great egg layer.

I’ll keep you posted as toher continuing escapades.

Spring is in the air at Frugi

It’s been a lovely sunny day, here at Frugi HQ today.

We’ve had the big doors to the warehouse open for the first time in I don’t know how long. The cobwebs have been blown away, and we’re good to go again.

Lots of stuff going on, on our facebook pages at the moment

Also twitter is quite busy – come find us at @Frugi

We’re all having a think how to best use our Cut4Cloth site going forwards, as we may be integrating the blog into our main site

Maybe a forum for cloth nappies or organic cotton clothes. Mums-to-be and nursing mums. Or a big directory devoted to ethical business?

Lots to think about and great plans ahead.

A look back at 2010 for Frugi

Well, here we are at the end of another brilliant year on Planet Frugi.

This year has seen us move into our fantastic new offices and warehouse. Watch the video HERE

We also did a little film about one of our photoshoots HERE

Lucy and Henri flirted outrageously with Colin Firth at the Ethical business awards, but Kurt didn’t mind too much. Hugh FearnleyWhittingstall impressed us with just being a really nice chap (We think that Lucy fell a little bit in love with him too)

Denise Van Outen became our first celebrity ‘Crusader’ – Thanks Denise, we love you too! Latest from Denise just in..

” just had a look at the Frugi spring summer collection for 2011. There are so many fabulous items to choose from. I know its going to be a Frugi spring/ summer for our baby girl Betsy”
Denise Van Outen

We also have a brand new website HERE

And from 2011 we’ll be going up in our size range to 8 yrs – Yippieeeeeeee

From all of us, to all of you, a heartfelt thank you

Have a great Christmas and see you in 2011

Tractor Envelope Top

Reviewed by Caroline B – Frugi Crusader

My little boy had pointed out the tractor t-shirt in the catalogue, so it was on my shopping list. However, I was unsure which size to buy as Leighton is 3 weeks off his 2nd Birthday. The T-shirt, like all Frugi clothing, is generous in size with sleeves which aren’t half mast! The cotton is extremely soft and strokable, I found him sat stroking his face with his sleeve!!! The t-shirt washed and dried very well, no ironing needed which is a godsend when you have 2 kids and a full time job!

The envelope neckline makes changing easy, essential when you have a toddler who lives life in the fast lane and doesn’t want to waste a second getting changed!

My boy wore this to nursery with his tractor cords and looked very cute. Such a stylish outfit, yet suitable for his age! He was certainly the best dressed toddler in his nursery room!!
