Abstract: So what is so different about Cut4Cloth clothing? This article looks at the vision that drives the company, how the range differs from conventional clothing and most importantly asks for you, the cloth nappy community, for your input into the new range of clothing.

How many of you clothie mums get frustrated when clothes will just not fit properly around your babies cloth nappy? It was this frustration that led me, Lucy Jewson in October 2003, to scour the Internet for clothing that was specifically cut to accommodate washable nappies. (I was fed up with having to leave the poppers of all our son Tom's babygrows open - a bit draughty for winter!) I found a huge number of companies selling cloth nappies on the 'net but none in the UK selling clothes to fit over them!
... clothes will just not fit properly around your babies cloth nappy ...
I did however find a company in the US that catered for cloth nappy babies, but when I looked at the styles, I didn't feel they would sell well in the UK, lots of Peter Pan collars etc. Also, the cost of them would have been astronomic when import duties were included etc. There was nothing for it; we'd have to start learning about manufacturing!!
It was important to us that our clothing would reflect the same environmental beliefs that brought us to using washable nappies in the first place. It had to be:
The cut of the Cut4Cloth range is very different to conventional clothing as well:
All trousers are cut to be a lot higher in the rise so that the waistband does not drag the nappy down. They are broader in the beam to so that little legs are free to wriggle as much as they like!
Our babygrows are longer in the body length, broader in the beam and all have a "gusset" (sorry that's a horrible word but I don't know what else to call it!) this gives a much better "3D" fit from front to back. Especially useful for night-time nappies that tend to be super boosted and therefore bigger!
Our baby bodies are also cut to be longer in the body and wider around the hips to have restriction free movement with a bigger bottom!
We have also been very careful to ensure that all our waistbands and fastenings on all our garments are soft and non restrictive. So many conventional trousers have waistbands made of hard, tight elastic and how can a baby tell you that they are uncomfortable?
