The dreams of an organic cotton clothing company to be the most trusted and desirable brand on the planet.

7 years ago we started our little organic cotton clothing company and called it Cut4Cloth. Back then our lives were dominated by our new baby boy and cloth nappies, but we knew that quitting our jobs and following our dream was what we had to do.

I was a big leap of faith. One of those ‘if we don’t do it now will we always regret it’ moments that come along every once in a while. Well we did it and our first range of organic cotton baby clothes that would fit over a cloth nappy was launched in the summer of 2004.

We had one computer, in our spare room, a dial-up internet connection and a dream.

Now we have twenty one computers, in a purpose built unit, 2 broadband lines…and a dream.

Our dream is for Frugi to be the most desirable and trusted organic cotton clothing brand on the planet.

Frugi clothes are always design lead. It is all very well to have the softest and strongest organic cotton in the world, but if the design is wrong then all ethics and environmentally friendliness in the world will not help. The clothes have to look great too.

We now do clothes for newborn, baby, kids and mother. Our ‘mother’ range is designed to help breastfeeding mums feed their babies discreetly, but in style. Our Baby range is sill cut that bit bigger for cloth nappies and our kids range now goes up yo 8 years old.

We now have a consumer website and a wholesale website and a great facebook page.

The dream is alive…

It’s been a lovely sunny day, here at Frugi HQ today.

We’ve had the big doors to the warehouse open for the first time in I don’t know how long. The cobwebs have been blown away, and we’re good to go again.

Lots of stuff going on, on our facebook pages at the moment http://www.facebook.com/welovefrugi

Also twitter is quite busy – come find us at @Frugi

We’re all having a think how to best use our Cut4Cloth site going forwards, as we may be integrating the blog into our main site www.welovefrugi.com

Maybe a forum for cloth nappies or organic cotton clothes. Mums-to-be and nursing mums. Or a big directory devoted to ethical business?

Lots to think about and great plans ahead.

Laters

I eagerly awaited the arrival of the new Frugi breastfeeding tops and have not been disappointed. Indecisive as ever I bought both the patterned and the black and at the moment they are the only tops I wear, hopping between the washer and the radiator for a speedy dry!

Scoop Neck Kaftan (Boho Blossom)

The insert means that you hide post baby belly as well as keeping warm! The patterned top goes really well with most other colours and hides a plethora of baby sick and other misdemeanors, it also looks even nicer than on the website. The black top does show up more spills but can be ‘dressed’ up. I wore mine to a smart family lunch recently. The only down side for me is the sleeves which look great but are tricky to keep clean. Just remember to roll them up before changing any nappies!!

Henley Breastfeeding Top

I’d dithered for ages, can I really justify it, would I get much wear out of it – you know how it goes. With three children there always seems to be more pressing demands on my money and I know I also find their clothes so much more interesting and gorgeous than my own. I also have to admit that I love the comments when someone says ‘oh don’t they look gorgeous’.

Well, I finally went for it and bought a Frugi Henley top (I went for that one as despite the additional cleavage scoop necks just don’t suit me) – my big frustration having bought it was ‘why did I wait so long!’ (21 months in to breastfeeding and now I buy it!)

My first impression when putting it on in the morning was ‘Wow’ So So Soft. I finally had a taste of how my children must feel when they put their C4C / Frugi clothes on and as they say it felt good. It was kind of the sensation of a lovely warm towel after a nice bath. A real organic person I have lots of other organic clothes and this was by far the softest. Positive start then, as the day went on I liked it more and more. It felt comfortable to wear, looked so unlike what I associate with a breastfeeding top. What I really liked was the fact that it was long enough to cover over my jeans (I hate low rise jeans! anyone else with me there? particularly not attractive when people wear them with thongs or am I just getting old) Builders bottom scenario is not attractive anywhere let alone at a toddler class.

Anyway, keeping on track the other things I liked are the colour, I love the contrasting underlayer. I’ve tried other nursing tops before that had just the layer in the front or poppers / buttons at the front. This is a whole lot easier having a second layer – which is a great way of ensuring that your midriff stays warm (nice to know if feeding on a bench outside in the cold) I did have a mum-brain moment the first time I used it, but got past that bit quickly.

It’s now reached favourite top in my wardrobe status and will be used for ages after my little one decides she’s had enough (which doesn’t look like any time soon as she’s very attached to it!)

The thought that came to mind having worn the top was that really cheesy advert ‘****, because you’re worth it. Well, in this case I’d say Frugi Organic – treat your children and yourself … because you really are both worth it!
