The dreams of an organic cotton clothing company to be the most trusted and desirable brand on the planet.

7 years ago we started our little organic cotton clothing company and called it Cut4Cloth. Back then our lives were dominated by our new baby boy and cloth nappies, but we knew that quitting our jobs and following our dream was what we had to do.

I was a big leap of faith. One of those ‘if we don’t do it now will we always regret it’ moments that come along every once in a while. Well we did it and our first range of organic cotton baby clothes that would fit over a cloth nappy was launched in the summer of 2004.

We had one computer, in our spare room, a dial-up internet connection and a dream.

Now we have twenty one computers, in a purpose built unit, 2 broadband lines…and a dream.

Our dream is for Frugi to be the most desirable and trusted organic cotton clothing brand on the planet.

Frugi clothes are always design lead. It is all very well to have the softest and strongest organic cotton in the world, but if the design is wrong then all ethics and environmentally friendliness in the world will not help. The clothes have to look great too.

We now do clothes for newborn, baby, kids and mother. Our ‘mother’ range is designed to help breastfeeding mums feed their babies discreetly, but in style. Our Baby range is sill cut that bit bigger for cloth nappies and our kids range now goes up yo 8 years old.

We now have a consumer website and a wholesale website and a great facebook page.

The dream is alive…

During it’s first day on she was getting comments from passers by on the street about how pretty she looks. It’s been perfect in the recent weather and seems to be suited both to look good at a party and equally it’s practical and hard wearing enough to be scruffing around the sand pit in. I believe the hat was for a while used to make sand castles and it’s still the shape it used to be. As is expected with Frugi the material is wonderfully soft and lovely and thick. Worn with a light Frugi cardy it’s been fantastic in this warm spring weather.

She was so excited when she saw it that she put it on immediately – on top of her nursery uniform! You can really feel the quality in this dress, unlike so many other summer dresses. It looks good on its own or teamed with leggings. I think I will have trouble getting it off her during the summer. You could also put it on top of a long sleeved top on colder days as it has a really good weight to it. It is great value for money as the style means it could be worn as a tunic top should she suddenly sprout up.

My daughter has eczema and getting clothes for her can be a challenge as she has very definite ideas about what she likes and what feels comfortable to her. Every item of Frugi clothing she has has been accepted without question and it has stayed soft after washing. It has even survived yesterdays travel sickness (hence the lack of beach photograph!).

This dress is everything it looks in the photos. A beautiful, classic design in a hard-wearing fabric, with lovely detailing in the contrasting fabric around the bottom. It looks fantastic with the Bong Tree Top underneath but I’ve found the colour quite easy to match with other plain t-shirts in the wardrobe too. I have had lots of comments about how lovely Abi looks in it, even at a 3rd birthday party in Cookham Dean when I was frankly terrified by the presence of so many expensive mothers and exquisitely Monsoon-clad immaculate toddlers. I like to think that Abi’s outfit looked classy and tasteful, but that she could still be a real little girl in it and zoom around the bouncy castle and the muddy bits in the garden without causing me undue distress. The dress has survived quite hard treatment repeatedly and washes up fine.

I am particularly enjoying the mix-n-match possibilities in this catalogue. I’ve got both colours of love-heart shrug, the bong tree top and the printed cord gypsy skirt and it is lovely to have a variety of options for different temperatures. It’s also great for special occasions to be able to deal with various messes by only changing one item of clothing and still produce a presentable, coordinated daughter!

Product Review by Helen H - Frugi Customer & Crusader

Songbird Dress & Summer Shrug

This wasn’t one of my Frugi parcel items for review, it was one of the items that when I first looked at Frugi’s summer collection I knew I had to have as the combination of dress and shrug was just so so gorgeous.

I’d loved C4C’s dress last year but had always wished that it had sleeves, well like they seem to do every season they’d improved on things. Here was a gorgeous organic dress with sleeves – excellent. A personal thing but I like tops and dresses to have sleeves so that those precious shoulders are protected from getting sunburnt.

I’m going to get a bit repetitive in my reviews when I say that the dress is really really soft. Having bought their clothing for 4 years now, I’ve just come to take that for granted with C4C and Frugi clothing. The quality is always fantastic and on the one occasion eighteen months ago when I had problems with a dungaree fastener the customer service was superb and they replaced the item straight away. This clothing is not throw away but really washes and washes and stands up to the rigors of active children.

My little girl is a bit of a tom boy, as I dress her in trousers most of the time (having never quite mastered tights) Saying that she does seem to sparkle when I say to her ‘doesn’t that look beautiful’, she loved the flower and songbird detail. It really is such a gorgeous and easy care dress, no ironing required here (given that up ages ago, now just reserved for husband’s work shirts – can justify by being much more eco friendly!) Her brothers loved her looking like a ‘little girl’. The cut of the dress is very flattering, with the gathers at the waist. Very importantly if you have big headed children like I do, it’s really easy to put on and off as there are several buttons at the back.

The summer shrug just sold the outfit to me. A lovely pastel pink, super soft, it is just so handy to have as a lightweight top. The attention to detail with the embroidered motif just increases the ‘ahh’ factor.

Having taken advantage of a nice summers day, I now have a lovely photo of my little girl in dress and shrug by some flowers – a good one for the relatives.
